From 20/09 to 20/09.
Parc Galea - Public talk with François Santoni: "THE ROMANS AND THE TAKING OF HOSTAGES: other times, other captives...". François Santoni, Senior Lecturer in Ancient History at the "Places, Identities, Spaces and Activities" laboratory of the University of Corsica and the CNRS, will be taking part in a major public talk on Sunday 20 September from 2pm as part of the Sunday meetings at the Parc Galea. The practice of taking hostages was commonplace in Antiquity, so much so that few ancient texts define it. Yet it is easy to see that it has little in common with such an act in our contemporary world. This meeting will attempt to reconstruct how the Romans went about choosing their hostages and the conditions under which they kept them. This public talk will be followed by a lecture at 3pm by Franck Monnier, Egyptologist, entitled "Mysteries of Ancient Egypt: scientific proof". This initiative is part of the PIA UNIversité: pour la Transformation au service des territoires Insulaires méditerranéens, supported by the University of Corsica. Meeting point : Sunday 20 September 2026 from 14:00 to 15:00, Parc Galea, Taglio Isolaccio. Proposed by : Places, Identities, eSpaces and Activities Laboratory (CNRS / University of Corsica), Mission science avec et pour la société. In partnership with : Parc Galea.
