From 11/10 to 11/10.
Parc Galea - Public talk with Alain Muselli: "TAPINOMA MAGNUM VS FURMICULA: a project to combat this devastating ant". Alain Muselli, University Professor of Theoretical, Physical and Analytical Chemistry at the "Sciences Pour l'Environnement" laboratory of the University of Corsica and the CNRS, will be taking part in a major public talk on Sunday 11 October from 2pm as part of the Sunday meetings at the Parc Galea. In this talk, we will be presenting the progress of work carried out as part of the FURMICULA project, jointly run by the University of Corsica's Environmental Sciences Laboratory and the Corsican Agricultural and Rural Development Office. The aim of the project is to develop alternative, innovative and environmentally-friendly solutions for combating T. magnum, the ant that ravages many Corsican orchards. Our approach is based on a strategy including (i) the identification and use of pheromones to disrupt or divert the insect's behaviour, and (ii) the development of formulations based on natural products with insecticidal properties. The aim is twofold: to gain a better understanding of the chemical ecology of this invasive species and, ultimately, to propose operational tools for sustainable management adapted to the realities of island farming. This public talk will be followed by a lecture at 3pm by Franck Courchamp, biologist and ecologist, entitled "Biological invasions: small movements and ecological disasters". This initiative is part of the PIA UNIversité: pour la Transformation au service des territoires Insulaires méditerranéens, supported by the University of Corsica. Meeting point : Sunday 11 October 2026 from 14:00 to 15:00. Proposed by : Laboratoire Sciences Pour l'Environnement (CNRS / Université de Corse), Mission science avec et pour la société. In partnership with : Parc Galea.
