MARFA ORANGE METALLIC
From 04/11 to 30/04.
FRAC Corsica exhibition “Marfa Orange Metallic” – FRAC Corsica – Corti. From Wednesday 4 November 2026 to Friday 30 April 2027, 10.00 – 17.00. The Citadel – Padoue Barracks 20250 Corte. Website: https://frac.isula.corsica/fr Tel: 04 20 03 95 33. The light seems to come from a place as yet unnamed. It carries the aridity of Marfa and the sweeping scale of its lines, to the point where it gives the impression that space is emptying and becoming almost abstract. It also conveys something of Corsica: its relief, its mineral gorges, its insular density, its luminous ruggedness. With this exhibition, Alexia and Philippe Caamano create a wholly new territory. It is neither a superimposition nor a measured dialogue between two identifiable geographies, but rather the invention of an autonomous zone, born of subtle tensions and shifts linked by affinities of material and light. Here, the desert and the island cease to appear as stable realities. They become the shifting coordinates of an imaginary space. Marfa Orange Metallic lends this space its mental hue. The title evokes a car body colour, a shade invented to catch the sun on a surface and make speed shimmer, with all the desire and aspiration it carries. But here, this brilliance has taken on a different meaning. It seems to have emerged from a world where the road, the sand, the metal and the sky would eventually have come to share a single skin. The car appears in the exhibition as a spectral form of modernity: it is both a promise of movement and a technical body hurled into the expanse. Its glossy surface offers itself up to the light, only to be slowly reclaimed by the landscape itself. The colour retains this ambiguity. It seduces, yet with a growing gravity. It heralds not so much a surge of momentum as a state of the world. The human presence remains subdued, almost absorbed by what it has built. What remains are the traces, the materials, the reflections, the signs of an environment that seems to continue without us or already beyond us. It is here that the exhibition reveals its most unsettling dimension. There is a hint of science fiction in the air, without any overt staging or futuristic bombast: a sensation rather than a narrative, that of the world turning into a desert. ‘Marfa Orange Metallic’ captures this sensation with a strange precision. Here, it becomes the name of an artificial, twilight-like atmosphere. It also denotes an uncertain territory, where Corsica and Marfa merge into a concrete fiction: a zone of light and metal, shaped by anticipation. Curators: Alexia and Philippe Caamano, Fabien Danesi.
