This lecture traces the gradual disappearance of this original civilisation, through the Indian Wars but also through the instrument of the law. How did the law respond to the original inhabitants of a world whose only ‘novelty’ lay in the fact that it had been discovered and then claimed by the Other? How does it treat them today?
