Sports/loisirs/sciences
From 02/10 to 12/10.
The University is taking part in the 2026 Festival of Science! From Friday 2 to Monday 12 October 2026, it’s the Festival of Science! The Science Festival, an initiative of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Space, organised and co-ordinated in Corsica by the Corsican Regional Authority, is a national event designed to promote scientific, technical and industrial culture and to foster, in a festive setting, exchanges between science and society. For the 2026 edition, ‘Saveurs savantes’ is the flagship theme being celebrated. To mark the occasion, the University of Corsica and its laboratories and research platforms are organising several events and activities aimed at schoolchildren and the general public: Friday 2 October: Official launch of the 2026 Festival of Science from 10.00 am at the INRAE in San Ghjulianu. This opening day will feature a lecture by Yann Froelicher, ambassador for the 2026 Fête de la Science in Corsica, on the history of citrus fruits and those overlooked by history, followed by a presentation on new citrus varieties in the Innovation Greenhouse. This will be an opportunity to discover the diversity of citrus fruits and the research being carried out to develop the varieties of the future. Saturday 3 October: Open Day at the STELLA MARE platform, University of Corsica / CNRS. The public will be able to explore the platform and its activities through guided tours led by scientists and the outreach team. Educational stands focusing on marine and coastal biodiversity, scientific diving and plastic pollution will also be available, notably in collaboration with the CPIE Bastia U Marinu. The day will feature a lecture entitled ‘Traditional fishing and the role of seafood in the Corsican diet: between decline and challenge’, presented by Vannina Lari, Senior Lecturer (HDR) at the University of Corsica, affiliated with the Lieux, Identités, eSpaces and Activités (LISA), University of Corsica / CNRS. Booking required. https://sciencesociete.universita.corsica/plugins/actu/actu-front.php?id=11621&id_site=71 Monday 5 October: Study day ‘Producers: the driving force behind food sovereignty’, from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm in Room 201 of the Faculty of Law and Political Science, also accessible via videoconference. Organised by the Mediterranean Legal Research Team (EMRJ), in partnership with the University of Pisa and the student association of the Franco-Italian Master’s in Business Law at the University of Corsica, this event bears the scientific endorsement of the Franco-Italian University. This unique guided tour will take you deep into the marine world and introduce you to the research carried out by the centre. Participants will be immersed in the fish hatchery, with the opportunity to help feed the fish and take part in scientific experiments alongside the STELLA MARE teams. Duration: 5 hours – ages 12 and over. https://visitesinsolites.cnrs.fr/visite/plongez-au-coeur-de-la-biodiversite-marine-et-littorale-corse/ Thursday 8 October: A day dedicated to schoolchildren on the Corte campuses. The laboratories of the University of Corsica and the CNRS will welcome primary, middle and secondary school pupils from the Corsican Academy to introduce them to the University’s research activities through science workshops, exhibitions and tours. On the Mariani Campus, the LISA laboratory will offer activities focusing on food, the Mediterranean, the Corsican language and culture, history and art. On the Grimaldi Campus, the SPE laboratory and the FSTS Examination Centre will be hosting, amongst other things, an exhibition on ‘Saveurs savantes’ (Scholarly Flavours) as well as workshops focusing on the environment, water, biodiversity, climate change, chemistry, agronomy and marine ecology. https://sciencesociete.universita.corsica/plugins/actu/actu-front.php?id=11614&id_site=71 Friday 9 October: The Georges Peri Centre for Scientific Studies in Vignola, Ajaccio, is opening its doors to secondary school pupils. Secondary school classes from the Ajaccio region, as part of the ‘Ajaccio Cité éducative’ programme, will take part – subject to booking – in science workshops on pollination and the chemistry of smells. Led by researchers and research lecturers from the Sciences Pour l’Environnement (SPE) laboratory at the University of Corsica / CNRS, these workshops will enable pupils to discover the phenomena under study in a fun and hands-on way, whilst familiarising themselves with research activities and careers. https://sciencesociete.universita.corsica/plugins/actu/actu-front.php?id=11617&id_site=71 Monday 12 October at 2.00 pm: Discovering the Corsican beekeeping sector and its challenges, at the University Library on the Grimaldi Campus in Corte. Through a guided tour of the exhibition ‘Corsican beekeeping: 40 years of R&D’, the public will be able to learn about the sector’s evolution, the role of research in its development, and the challenges it currently faces. The event will continue with a tasting of Corsican PDO honeys and a discussion with key players from the sector and the research community: the AOC Miels de Corse Association – Mele di Corsica, ODARC, INRAE and the OCIC of the OEC. Lecturers, researchers, PhD students, undergraduates and science communicators from the University of Corsica will be taking part throughout this event to share their knowledge, spark the public’s curiosity and foster dialogue between science and society. https://sciencesociete.universita.corsica/plugins/actu/actu-front.php?id=11622&id_site=71 Look out for the full programme for the 2026 Science Festival in Corsica coming soon.
