Ballu: JEUNE BALLET CORSE and emerging island talent, Thursday 18 March 2027 at 6.30 pm. Company: Jeune Ballet Corse. Directed by: Patricia Portal Gozzi. Cast: Dancers from the JBC, island dancers. The University Cultural Centre is hosting a special evening celebrating young island dancers and the Jeune Ballet Corse, a pre-professional training organisation founded by Patricia Portal-Gozzi. Over the past 15 years, the Jeune Ballet Corse has trained 134 young dancers from the island, 61 of whom have gone on to pursue professional careers. Of these, 28 have become professional dancers, 19 have obtained the state diploma in dance teaching, and 14 work in fields related to the arts and culture. With 32 original choreographic works to its name, this company has toured Corsica, offering young talents a stage on which to express themselves and develop their professional skills. During this evening’s performance, the dancers of the Jeune Ballet Corse will take centre stage once again and share the stage with students from the University and pupils from the Ajaccio Dance Academy, an ‘institution’ with a history stretching back over 50 years that has nurtured some of the biggest names in dance. Among the most famous are Isabelle Ciaravola (principal dancer with the Paris Opera Ballet), Guillaume Hulot (principal dancer with the Frankfurt Ballet), and Gaëtan Morlotti (principal dancer with the Ballets de Monte-Carlo). This gathering of young dancers promises to be a vibrant celebration of the island’s dance heritage!
