Five women and a young man who has seen it all, returned from his wars and battles, finally back home, lying there, in the house, now, exhausted by the journey and by life, sleeping peacefully or dying, nothing else, returned to where he started to die there. ’ In *I Was in My House and I Was Waiting for the Rain to Come*, Jean-Luc Lagarce composes a score for five women who see their lives set in motion once more as the brother, the son they were waiting for to (re)start living, returns and collapses. From that moment on, words flow freely: ‘We struggle once more, for the last time, to share the remnants of love; we tear at each other for that exclusive tenderness. We would so much like to know.’
