CELESTE BOURSIER MOUGENOT "CLINAMEN"

FRAC CORSICA exhibition “Clinamen” by Céleste Boursier-Mougenot. At A Cisterna – Corti. At A Cisterna, a former cistern at the Padoue Barracks within the Citadel of Corti, the Collectivité de Corse presents ‘Clinamen’ by Céleste Boursier-Mougenot, a sound installation comprising two basins in which water sets porcelain vessels in motion. The bowls glide across the surface. As they draw closer, they sometimes come into contact. These gentle collisions produce clear, ever-changing tinkling sounds. The composition takes shape without any instrument being played directly; it depends on the drift of the objects and their unexpected encounters.... A Cisterna thus becomes a space where heritage is experienced through the direct perception of sound and architecture. The installation also serves as an extension of *Atlantropa n’aura pas lieu*, presented at the same time in the galleries of FRAC Corsica in Corti. Whilst the group exhibition, drawing on Hermann Sörgel’s project, explores the fantasy of a Mediterranean subject to technical planning, *Clinamen* offers a counterpoint characterised by great restraint. Here, water no longer appears as a resource available for development, but as a presence whose variations must be observed. Set against the dreams of control that run through the history of Atlantropa, Céleste Boursier-Mougenot’s work suggests a different relationship with the elements, based on an attentiveness to what happens of its own accord.
