Church of the Annunciation – Comprising four voices, the group CANTU NUSTRALE performs sacred, traditional and contemporary songs such as ‘Deus Israel’, ‘Agnus Dei’, ‘Tantum Ergo’, ‘Biasgina’, ‘Barbara Furtuna’, ‘E Muntagne d’Orezza’, ‘Violetta’, ‘Introitu’ and ‘Kyrie’... In the performance of Corsican polyphonic singing, which stems from the oral tradition, everything is a matter of instinct: the way the song is delivered, the momentum, the pitch of the notes, the rhythm, the dynamics of the breath, and the search for balance. The freedom to ornament – which creates friction, parallel fifths and octaves, and is prohibited by classical harmony – is the very essence of Corsican polyphonic singing. This concert blends a cappella polyphonic songs from the traditional secular and sacred repertoire. The audience is taken on a musical journey through the scents of the maquis of an intense and warm-hearted Corsica, allowing the group to convey and share the very best of its unique character. Rejecting facile artifice and passing fads, the group Cantu Nustrale is committed to restoring the simple and authentic character of their songs and is also dedicated to composition and training.
