Parc Galea - Public interview with Davia Benedetti "OCHJU, MAL OCHJU, MAL DE OJO: telling and showing the evil eye in the Mediterranean Davia Benedetti, Senior Lecturer at the University of Corsica, will be taking part in a public talk on Sunday 19 October from 2.00 pm as part of the Parc Galea's Sunday meetings. Representations of the 'evil eye' in the Mediterranean bear witness to a shared and transmitted belief in supernatural forces immanent in nature. How are these magico-religious beliefs and practices put into practice? What is their social function in our societies? What is the balance between belief and knowledge? Davia Benedetti is a lecturer in Regional Cultures and Languages at the 'Places, Identities, Spaces and Activities' laboratory at the University of Corsica and the CNRS. Since 2007, she has been conducting fieldwork in Corsica on dances, collective practices and the body, shedding unique light on rituals and beliefs linked to the evil eye in the Mediterranean. Director of the Centre Culturel Universitaire, she also teaches in the Arts and Corsican Language and Culture courses, and is in charge of the Creativity mission for the President of the University of Corsica. In this role, she creates interaction between research, creation and teaching, and opens up cross-disciplinary perspectives by promoting and popularising scientific culture in innovative ways. This public interview will be followed by a talk at 3pm by Grégory Delaplace, anthropologist, entitled "Ghosts and spirits: how to question the invisible". Conditions and prices for admission to the Parc Galea are given in the downloadable agenda or on the Parc Galea website. This initiative is part of the PIA UNIversité: pour la Transformation au service des territoires Insulaires méditerranéens, supported by the University of Corsica.
