Centre Culturel Universitaire : Conference "Musiques populaires, engagement et patrimonialisation : regards croisés entre les États-Unis et la Corse", Wednesday 1st October 20250 14h00. Spaziu Universitariu Natale Luciani. Speaker: PAUL-THOMAS CESARI Paul-Thomas Cesari is a lecturer in English and Anglo-Saxon languages and literature at the Università di Corsica Pasquale Paoli and a doctoral student in American studies at the Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3. The 1960s in the United States and the 1970s in Corsica redefined the place of music in society. The American folk revival and riacquistu brought a fresh look at musical traditions that had long been considered obsolete. These repertoires, reinvested by ethnomusicologists, artists, activists and then institutions, became the medium for renewed transmission and the vectors of an attachment to a cultural memory in tension with the processes of modernisation. This talk looks at the parallel trajectories of these movements, questioning the place of music in the construction of collective identities and contemporary historical narratives.
