Cunferenza: The War of the Spanish Succession (1700-1713), Wednesday 28 January 2026 at 2.00 pm, GÉRAUD POUMARÈDE. The geopolitical balances of the 16th and 17th centuries were upset by the War of the Spanish Succession between 1700 and 1713. The confrontation between the Bourbons, led by Louis XIV, and the Habsburgs, who dominated the Germanic world and the Iberian and Italian peninsulas, came to a climax. The eighteenth century, the century of the Corsican Revolutions, can be understood in terms of the treaties (Utrecht and Rastadt), which brought about profound changes, particularly in the Mediterranean island world. Géraud Poumarède, professor of modern history at Sorbonne University, places the political development of Corsica at the beginning of the 18th century in the international context that the Naziunali experienced and exploited in their struggle for emancipation.
