Ballu : HUMUS, Tuesday 10 February 2026 at 6.30pm. COMPANY: JULIETTE BAIGNE. Choreography, set design, concept and music: Juliette Baigne. Performer: Juliette Baigne. Sound, lighting: Anouar Benali, Nicolas Fresi. Inspired by the common etymology of humus (earth) and homo (man), Humus is a performance about our ancestral link to the earth and its cyclical movements, in the dynamics of living things: birth, nourishment, transformation, death. Through the symbolic use of kraft paper, a raw material itself the product of a re-cycling movement, the piece explores the intimate and ambiguous relationship we have with the earth, sometimes nourishing and protected, sometimes dominated and exploited. Paper becomes a terrain of bodily origin, memory, transformation and regeneration, a reminder that we come from the earth and return to it. "Thinking of ourselves as food for others is the most elementary way of thinking of life as a circulation, as a gift from a community of ancestors, and death as a recycling, a flow that continues in an ecological and ancestral community". "We are all one and the same life that never ceases to metamorphose". Emanuele Coccia, Metamorphosis.
