Don Ch'è Rottu II plunges deeper into the amalgam between the real and the imaginary. This time, Don Ch'è Rottu not only confronts the beings he invents - to wage his battles in the service of values he believes to be universal - but he also goes so far as to defy the imaginary itself, attacking puppets he deems unworthy of the spirit of chivalry. It could be summed up in this maxim: he possesses, "as the only certainty, the wisdom of uncertainty" (Kundera). Ashamed of his massacres, he asks for forgiveness and repays the damage caused with hard cash. It's a vertiginous mise en abyme: sooner or later, you have to pay the price for your actions. "So is he a dictator who wants to bend every being to the measure of the world he imagines? Certainly not. On the contrary, he urges us "to understand the world as ambiguous, like Cervantes, and to confront, instead of an absolute truth, a bunch of relative truths that contradict each other..." (Kundera).
