Lecture: THE NORMAN KINGDOM OF SICILY: A Land of Intercultural Exchange (12th–13th centuries), Wednesday 24 February 2027 at 2.00 pm, Annick Peters-Custot. Annick Peters-Custot is a professor of medieval history at the University of Nantes, specialising in southern Italy, which was the subject of her doctoral thesis. Her research focuses in particular on exchanges in the Mediterranean between the Roman Empire of Constantinople, the Caliphate of Cairo and the Norman territories of Sicily and the southern Italian peninsula. The interculturalism that prevailed in the 11th–13th centuries found a particularly favourable environment in the Norman Kingdom of Sicily, under the exceptionally prosperous reigns of Roger II and Frederick II. The ties maintained with the Republics of Pisa and Genoa provide a clearer picture of Corsica’s position within the dynamics of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
