The LUMI Conferences – Crises of Progress and Rationality – The Enlightenment Confronted with the Anthropocene: A New Educational Challenge? On 15 and 16 October 2026, the University of Corsica will host a new LUMI symposium in Corte entitled ‘Crises of Progress and Rationality: The Enlightenment Confronted with the Anthropocene – A New Educational Challenge?’.Organised by the CNRS UMR LISA 6240, under the scientific leadership of Jean-Guy Talamoni and Bruno Garnier, this event will bring together researchers from several French and international universities. Together, they will examine the legacy of the Enlightenment at a time when ecological and climatic upheavals are forcing us to rethink our relationship with progress, rationality, living organisms and education. Over the course of two days, discussions will centre on four main themes: – modern rationality, the sciences and narratives of the Anthropocene; – territories, heritage and situated learning; – education about living organisms and through territories; – training in action, complexity and intercultural understanding. Presentations will address, in particular, the critique of scientific ecology, environmental justice, local knowledge and heritage, school and community gardens, education for sustainability, and training for action in a context of climate uncertainty. This conference thus aims to create a space for collective reflection: what should be preserved, transformed or challenged in the legacy of the Enlightenment in order to build a democratic and eco-citizen-oriented education system suited to the challenges of the Anthropocene? Dates: Thursday 15 October 2026 to Friday 16 October 2026. Immersive Room, Edmond Simeoni Building, Mariani Campus, Corti. Organised by: the ‘Places, Identities, eSpaces and Activities’ Laboratory (CNRS / University of Corsica), Jean-Guy TALAMONI, Senior Lecturer – HDR Ass, | talamoni_jg@univ-corse.fr, Bruno GARNIER, Project Officer for secularism, equality, and the fight against violence and discrimination | garnier_b@univ-corse.fr
