We are born and live together without having asked for or prepared for this coexistence, in which, paradoxically, we manage to feel alone. We tolerate one another, we ignore one another, we accept one another within a shared environment that can both elevate us and lose us. When the world seems too dark, when it crushes us or thunders at us, fortitude makes our light shine brighter. An energy drives us to brave difficulties and suffering and, mysteriously, finds its radiance deep within ourselves and in the company of others. It kindles our inner hearth and transforms us, making us witnesses to the strength of spirit nestled at the heart of humanity.
