Temporary exhibition on display at the Museum of Corsica from July to September 2026. THE MUSEUM OF CORSICA UNVEILS 38 NEW WORKS AND OBJECTS FROM ITS RECENT ACQUISITIONS. Exploring two key themes relating to Corsica – figurative art and materials – you will discover landscapes, people, furniture and tools, which are central to Corsican identity. This selection provides an opportunity to showcase the direction of the museum’s acquisition policy whilst, at the same time, highlighting the diversity of the collections without revealing too many of the other treasures held in storage. DISCOVER: 38 WORKS AND OBJECTS FROM THE MUSEUM OF CORSICA. Centred on two key themes relating to Corsica—representation and material culture—you will discover landscapes and people, furniture and tools, which are key elements of Corsican identity. Through this selection, the aim was to illustrate the focus of the acquisition policy, as well as the diversity of the collections, without, however, revealing all the treasures held in the storerooms. AN EXHIBITION TO PRESENT THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS. The Museum of Corsica opened its doors in June 1997 to showcase the ethnographic collections gathered in Corsica by Father Louis Doazan during the 1970s. In 2027, the museum will celebrate its 30th anniversary, providing an opportunity to offer the public a new tour of the permanent galleries. Research carried out on the various temporary exhibitions and the numerous acquisitions has made it possible to envisage a reorganisation of the visitor route. A GLIMPSE INTO TOMORROW’S COLLECTION. To address the challenges underlying the museum’s identity, it seems essential to continue breaking down disciplinary barriers, so as to present visitors with a variety of perspectives and interpretations of Corsica that can be drawn from the diversity of the collections. At the crossroads of scientific and artistic approaches, the Museum of Corsica is evolving from an anthropological museum into a museum of society. Its aim is to engage the public and update the discourse on contemporary issues by introducing a range of museographic innovations. This commitment was formalised by the unanimous adoption of the General Policy Framework for Archaeological Sites and Museums in Corsica by the Corsican Assembly, on 13 February 2020, and reinforced by the approval of the institution’s Scientific and Cultural Project on 30 May 2025. THE COLLECTION OF TOMORROW IN A GLANCE. The new permanent gallery, currently being developed, will add a new dimension to the Museum of Corsica, coinciding with the planned reopening of the refurbished Citadel. But even before these works were completed, the team was eager to present to the public some treasures from the latest acquisitions. Drawing on a selection of objects and works of art that highlight the richness and diversity of these collections, we wanted to offer the public a unique visitor experience. TWO THEMATIC TOURS TO DISCOVER CORSICA. The exhibition is organised around two main themes: Depictions: – Landscapes: the sea and the mountains. – People. Material culture. – Furniture. – Instruments.
