"Ressacs clairs" - "Noirs visages". MOSTRE TEMPURARIE: From 09 April to 15 June 2026. The Corsican Regional Authority's Heritage Department, in partnership with the e Cime association, is hosting two exhibitions devoted to the contemporary artist Jean-Paul Marcheschi. Two venues, two exhibitions by the visual artist Jean-Paul Marcheschi: Ressacs clairs, at the Museu di a Corsica. Noirs visages, at A Cisterna - Caserna Padoue - Citadella di Corti - Entrance via the FRAC gardens. Through these two installations, the public is invited to take part in a sensitive experience in which the elements interact and the Mediterranean appears as a territory of transformation and resonance. An internationally renowned island artist, the visual artist draws his inspiration from his Mediterranean roots, both through references to the myths and stories of his native land, and through the use of a material made of fire and soot that becomes the imprint of time, memory and identity. "Clear surf The phrase inscribed at the entrance, "The sea, the sea, always beginning again...", opens the exhibition like a poetic threshold. It evokes a perpetual movement, an infinite breath, where each wave is born, disappears and is reborn over and over again. This motif of recommencement is at the heart of the work presented here. At the centre of the installation, the large Ressac (4 x 6 metres) displays an energy that is both powerful and unstable. Around it, the wave variations, inspired by Hokusai, extend this exploration of movement and transformation. The text from Man'yoshu (Book VI, poem 1021), presented on an iron fragment, introduces a more archaic and ritual dimension. It is a prayer addressed to the marine deities, invoking protection from the unpredictable forces of the sea and calling for a safe return to the land of one's birth. This text resonates directly with Jean-Paul Marcheschi's work. Like the wave, the fire he uses in his work is both a force of destruction and a principle of revelation. It inscribes in the surface a vivid memory, marked by the elements. In this way, the exhibition offers a sensitive journey: between sea and fire, appearance and disappearance, danger and return. Visitors are invited to experience the movement of the surf, where each form seems to emerge from chaos before returning to it, in a never-ending cycle. "Black Faces The exhibition is part of a reflection on the deep links between matter, memory and humanity, in which the fertile tensions, energies and resonances specific to the Mediterranean region unfold. Jean-Paul Marcheschi is a Corsican artist who, since 1982, has been developing a unique practice in which fire becomes the very tool of creation, replacing the paintbrush and inscribing a vivid and unpredictable trace in the material. His work brings out the light in the material itself. Through the series of faces, the artist explores an essential and timeless humanity. These figures, at once anonymous and universal, seem to emerge from the shadows, as if plucked from the night. Black is not absence, but depth, a matrix from which light emerges. Fire, transformed into a paintbrush, inscribes a vivid memory into the material. In this way, the artist summons up an archaic power, evoking the figure of Hephaestus. This tension between erasure and appearance gives rise to a presence in which each face becomes a trace, an imprint and an enigma. In the Cisterna, a projection system extends the experience. Three films are shown, focusing on the work of Jean-Paul Marcheschi: his technique, his relationship with fire and the intellectual dimension of his work. Set up as close as possible to the works, the projection system invites visitors to immerse themselves in an almost subterranean environment, where images and materials resonate. Visitors are invited into a unique experience, where the elements interact and each face becomes the site of an encounter, between intimate memory and shared humanity. Jean-Paul Marcheschi - An artist between shadow, fire and memory Jean-Paul Marcheschi, a Corsican artist, was born in Bastia in 1951 and now works mainly in Paris. Trained at the Arts Décoratifs de Nice and the Institut d'Art et d'Archéologie in Paris, he has led a rich artistic career, supported by degrees in art history. Since the 1990s, he has been developing a singular practice in which fire becomes the very tool of creation, replacing the brush and inscribing a vivid, unpredictable trace in the material. He has developed a body of work in which light emerges from matter. In the Variations autour de la vague series, the wave becomes a space of transformation: the brightness of the foam is born from the obscure depths, in a constant dialogue between appearance and disappearance. His artistic universe oscillates between darkness and light, as if creation were to emerge from the confrontation between these two extremes. His works, both powerful and fragile, reveal a style that is permeated by elemental forces.
