Dying is very easy. Living between these two events is not necessarily impossible. All you have to do is follow the rules and apply the principles to get by. You just have to know that in every circumstance there is a solution, a way of reacting and behaving, an explanation for the problems, because life is just one long series of tiny problems, each of which calls for and needs an answer. In the logic of a text inspired by a source book, two voices are superimposed, juxtaposed and intermingled. Baroness Staffe's: the voice of the one who knows. Assertive, she sets out the rules, spelling out the customary code that governs the 'proper' functioning of society at every stage of life (birth, engagement, marriage, mourning). Jean-Luc Lagarce's voice subverts this initial material by commenting, taking a stand and accentuating the "regulatory" tone.
