Cunferenza: Giovanni della Grossa (1388-1464), passer of memory and precursor. Wednesday 10 December 2025 at 6.30pm, MICHÈLE FERRARA . In the 15th century, Giovanni della Grossa recounted the history of Corsica from its mythical origins right up to the present day. An officer who was heavily involved in public life for almost 50 years, he was a remarkable witness to Corsican medieval society. His sojourns outside the island enabled him to broaden his vision of the world and observe the societal changes that were taking place in the Italian sphere at the time. Fortifications, lords, legends and epics: his account evokes places, people, hopes and disappointments. It provides an insight into the representations and mental world in which the Corsicans lived at the end of the Middle Ages. During a tumultuous period, Giovanni della Grossa brought the ideas of the Italian Quattrocento to the island and paved the way for island historiography and literature.
