Cuncertu : Carmen in swing. Thursday 16 October 2025 at 6.30pm. Carmen in swing is a show lasting around an hour and a half, with an original sound that invites you to rediscover Bizet's masterpiece in a new light. Pierre-Gérard Verny, composer, arranger and choirmaster, revisits Carmen, Georges Bizet's iconic opera, first performed one hundred and fifty years ago and acclaimed the world over. He offers choir, accompanied by saxophones and a jazz trio. With this jazzy re-reading, Carmen in swing is divided into ten musical pieces representative of the original plot, arranged in different styles: ballad, swing, swing up, bossa nova, samba, among others. Connecting texts, written in narrative form, make it easy to follow the thread of the story. This narration gives the show a real theatrical dimension, enhanced by the presence of a dancer. The chorus, meanwhile, takes on several roles: sometimes as the central character (Carmen, Don José...), sometimes as the dramatic chorus (the crowd, the toreadors...), enriching the staging with its vocal and stage presence.
